“ Very upscale restaurant. From the layout, to interior design to color choice and table set up, this is a place to take people to show off. The service was great, very attentive. I ordered the El Jefe Burrito and for an upscale restaurant, it wasn't bad. Nothing close to a carne asada burrito at a taco shop, but you definitely pay for the ambiance. The best thing I ate there was the tortilla chips that came while waiting for food. They were fresh and crispy and lightly salted. The salsas were delicious too. If you have visitors coming to town and want to take them somewhere upscale, this is a good spot. We ordered cocktails and they were great and presented nicely. ”
“ The food was so delicious. We got the birria tacos (a bit on the heavier side but still great) and the filet mignon ranchero. Highly recommend. They bring out complimentary chips and 3 salsas. All so good. The beans, wow. So good. Not something I normally say. Get double! Staff were all very friendly. Our waiter was attentive and very friendly. Great low lit date night vibes. Fire pit going on the patio. Drinks - amazing. ”
“ Here's a shorter version: "Unforgettable night at South of Nick's! Delicious, authentic Mexican food with generous portions. Fantastic live music and vibrant atmosphere made for a fun night out. Top-notch service too! Highly recommend! ”
“ Love the side dish of corn And the shrimp salad. Next time I'll get it lightly dressed And the fundido queso appetizer. It comes with home made tortillas. Very yummy and very filling. You will want to share that. ”
“ First time at South of Nicks, had a wonderful meal in July at Nick's in San Clemente for our anniversary and vacation with our family of six. This time we went to their Del Mar location for NYE, since we were on vacation in San Diego. Appetizers: We ordered their guacamole, and they brought endless hot and crispy chips with three salsas and beans. Everything had so many bold flavors, their beans were very unique and delicious with the chips. Cocktails: 5/5, Toasted Coconut Might Be My New Favorite Cocktail, I love blended drinks, brings me right to Hawaii, but even better than a Pina Co Entrees: *My daughter had the Beef Birria Tacos, and loved them: 5/5, came with beans *My other daughter had the chicken enchiladas which are her favorite: 5/5 *My son and I both had the Cabo Shrimp, came with a giant piece of garlic bread along with a rich, flavorful broth, with citrus rice: 5/5 *My other son had the Enchiladas Divorciadas, two different enchiladas: 5/5 Service: Everything came out quickly, our server was super friendly and checked on us throughout the evening Ambiance: Big bar, in the center of the room, cool architecture and stone work, massive patio outside, I randomly chose a place to eat for New Year's Eve, I thought it might be a more "fun" atmosphere or ”
“ South of Nick's in Del Mar is a vibrant, upscale spot with a fantastic atmosphere and a menu full of bold flavors. It's the kind of place that's perfect for a night out with friends, a special occasion, or even a casual dinner--thanks to its relaxed yet lively vibe. The standout here is definitely the food. The complimentary chips and salsa are so yummy! For the main courses, I highly recommend the La Tablita--the steak is perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. It was so nice to be able to build your own tacos as well. The service was friendly and attentive, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The ambiance is lively and fun, with a beautiful, spacious interior and an outdoor patio that makes for a great place to dine on a sunny day or evening. It's perfect for people watching as it's in the heart of Del Mar, so you get a great vibe from the surrounding area. Overall, South of Nick's is a fantastic choice if you're looking for vibrant Mexican-inspired dishes with a modern twist. The food, drinks, and ambiance all come together for a memorable experience. Will definitely be back! ”
“ Great place to have dinner to catch up with friends. We all ordered something different and everyone's food was great. I could see this being a cute date spot too. Upscale Mexican food with the best chips and dip! I've never had any place offer salsa AND a black bean dip. I don't even like beans but this dip was so tasty! Well seasoned and served warm with warm chips! What a winning combo. You know what's even better? They're complimentary!! Our server was great. Drinks refilled without asking and checked on us throughout our visit without being overly annoying. ”
“ This restaurant has a classy yet family-friendly vibe, with reasonable prices--most dishes around $20. The complimentary chips & salsa are a highlight, especially the black bean salsa. Highly recommend the Taco Salad, with its crispy bowl, generous toppings, and perfect balance of sour cream and guacamole. The Taquitos are delicious, with standout sauces and sides. We also enjoyed the Enchiladas and Ranchero, both tasty and beautifully presented. Great spot for gatherings, dates, or family dinners--worth a visit! ”
“ Nestled at the end of One Paseo, South of Nick's Del Mar is a modern take on Mexican food. There is a bar area, small outdoor area with a fire pit, and indoor seating. There is a large parking structure right next to the restaurant (which is shared by all the businesses in the complex) but it's often busy so plan to come earlier to find a spot. The menu showcases various items including tacos, burritos, entrees, salads, and appetizers. I appreciated the complimentary chips and dips. The food was tasty and fresh. The only con was the service. Although we had reservations, there was a 15 mins delay. Then it took another 15 mins to get our water. Then an hour to get our food. Our server was supposedly in training but the main server was impossible to get a hold of. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're hungry or in a rush. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here. ”
“ Quaint, fresh Mexican food in Del Mar! The absolute perfect spot for a date night. Service was fantastic, very Mexican menu. Definitely different then your typical Mexican American spots. ”
